The film “The Mask You Live In” was produced to challenge male stereotypes. It begins to look at the experience of how young men, having a rigid belief of what a man should be, deal with the negative impacts on their lives. It offers the alternative of young men deciding for themselves. To choose the path of self-determination, throwing off the shackles with which they have been emotionally imprisoned.
Brene Brown decribes herself as a Researcher story teller. In this TED Talks video she looks at Shame and Vulnerabilty. It is difficult to share our vulnerable self and yet as she points out, vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.
“If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can’t survive.”
